Fenida Adhiambo’s life has not been easy. She lives in deep poverty, staying with her grandmother. Her mother is living with polio. Her sister is hospitalized—and the family is not registered under SHA. On top of all that, Fenida is five months pregnant, had not yet attended ANC, and is living with sickle cell disease.
For many people, that combination would feel like a dead end. For Fenida, it became the beginning of a new chapter.
The day Fenida asked for help
When Fenida met the Amicus Regional Team Lead in Kisumu, she shared her story with the kind of honesty that only comes from someone who has been carrying too much, for too long. With his experience in public health—and his training and service as a Public Health Officer in government institutions—he immediately recognized what this was:
A high-risk case that needed urgent action, not delays.
He initiated her onboarding immediately.
A doctor steps in—and a community rallies
Fenida was paired with one of the doctors registered on our platform: Dr. A. Bhargavi of Unam Medical Center (Kisumu CBD).
Fenida went through her first observation. After assessing her situation, the doctor recommended financial support, endorsed her for fundraising, and confirmed the urgency of the next clinical steps.
That endorsement made everything move faster.
From story to support—within hours
The Kisumu Regional Team Lead uploaded Fenida onto the Amicus platform immediately. Using the documents available, we:
-
onboarded her as a beneficiary,
-
trained and activated Fenida’s personalized chatbot,
-
and opened her case to Friends For Impact—Kenyans supporting another Kenyan transparently.
Once her chatbot was activated, people began contributing voluntarily toward her care—because the need was real, urgent, and verified.
The breakthrough: urgent tests completed in under one week
Fenida needed urgent tests, including an ultrasound, and additional assessments to determine whether she may require any transfusion planning before her due date. Without SHA registration, these steps were out of reach for her family—unless someone stepped in.
And people did.
In less than one week after calling for help, Fenida raised the initial amount needed for urgent tests.
She has now completed the tests, received her medication, and is finally on a safer path—one guided by a doctor and supported by a community.
This is what success looks like:
One Kenyan supported by other Kenyans—where funds go directly to the Doctor’s kitty for care.
What’s next: SHA registration (we’re halfway there)
We want to sincerely thank everyone who has contributed so far. Your support has already changed Fenida’s life.
Now we’re at the next milestone:
✅ Tests done
✅ Medication started
⏳ Remaining: KES 5,400 needed to register Fenida for SHA, so she can be placed under Universal Health Care like other Kenyans—protecting both her and the baby for the next year.
